“The staff from the counter to the loading are outstanding in service.

They are helpful at the front desk taking your order and any construction questions. The yard staff is likewise helpful.

As a contractor pressed for time, they are aware of that and get you out as fast as they can. Sometimes they will even multi task and handle two customers at time.

The quality of the products are superior to what is available at the big box stores. It is well worth it to purchase products from Rocky Mountain Forest Products.”

“Rocky Mountain Forest Products is by far the best family owned lumber yard I’ve been to. Compared to any of the bigger yards, RMFP are my go to guys. they have a huge selection And great variety. Every time I’ve been in they were quick to help with what I needed. The customer service is excellent and they are willing to give advice as well as answer any questions you may have. Staff is very friendly, you won’t find any other staff like these guys I highly recommend to everybody.”

– Bradley M. | 5 Star Google Review

“Great service, very responsive to customer needs, dispatcher calls when they are leaving the yard so you aren’t wasting time waiting for your delivery. Fair pricing also.

Mike Barritt went to bat for us on a project where the mill was trying to force us to buy way more product than required due to the mill’s over stock. He was able to wrangle a deal the mutually served everyone’s interests. Exceptional salesmanship for going above and beyond.”

– David T. | 5 Star Google Review

“I have been working with Rocky Mountain Forest Products since 1995. I have to say that seeing the core faces there over 15 years in the office, management and the yard is a comfort. i look forward to going here and spending time with the employees and the service is friendly, educated, experienced and detailed. it is a compliment to the organization that the faces you see have been there that long and should say something to everyone else as well. They care about customers and staff.”

– Rob B. | 5 Star Google Review

“I just finished replacing my 700 square foot deck. I ordered most of the deck materials (composite deck boards, framing, joists, and fascia boards) through RMFP. Their prices were competitive with the big box stores plus they also sell No. 1 grade lumber which the big box stores do not carry. I worked with Blake on ordering the materials and he was very knowledgeable in helping me order the correct amount of materials. The deliveries were prompt and the materials were for the most part undamaged when delivered. I would not hesitate to order materials from them in the future and I would not hesitate recommending their services to friends and family.”

Questions

Why should I use cedar for my decking solution?

Cedar has the smallest environmental footprint of any other building material. Additionally, it is both renewable and biodegradable. Cedar is an incredibly strong yet lightweight material that allows any homeowner or contractor to shape their deck into any design that he or she chooses. There are different grades of cedar, so give us a call to learn what grade is best for you. When a timelessly natural look is the top priority for a homeowner, cedar decking is an easy choice!

How are exotic hardwoods different from other decking materials?

Exotic hardwood decking has three main advantages over all other decking materials:

  • Unparalleled Beauty– The distinctive grains and colors that are found in exotic hardwood are impossible to beat. Regardless of the look desired- contemporary, rustic, or distinctive – there is an exotic hardwood species that will accommodate the project.
  • Durability– Exotic hardwoods are considerably more dense and durable than ANY other wood decking. These woods will endure abuse from patio furniture, grills, pets, and foot traffic far better than cedar or redwood.
  • Quality– Exotic hardwoods naturally have very few branches. This results is a finished piece of lumber that has almost no knots, or is “clear” as we say in the lumber business. In addition to the lack of knots, all of our exotic hardwood decking is kiln dried. That means each piece of decking will be more stable with less warping, twisting, or crooking.

What does ‘checking’ mean?

During the drying process, the ends and surfaces dry first and this means that they shrink. But, the core remains swollen. The different rates of drying cause cracking at the ends and surface of the lumber. This reaction is called “checking”. Why does this matter? A relatively small amount of checking is deemed acceptable under the grading rules for lumber and the amount allowed, varies by grade. The amounts allowed are based upon the effect that these defects have on various strength properties of wood.

How do I clean and maintain my composite deck?

Composite decking materials are pretty resilient. Clean your deck at least twice each year to remove pollen, organic debris, dirt or stains. Generally, a broom or a blower will work better than a hose for removing scattered organic materials like leaves. Over time, especially with kids and pets, the deck may become soiled. Dislodge accumulated dirt with a broom or by using soap and water with a scrub brush. Scrubbing in the direction of the grain is best. Afterwards, thoroughly rinse off the entire surface with a garden hose.

Wood Decking Options we Offer

WOOD DECKING

There are two different types of traditional decking that we offer: cedar and redwood. These two softwood species have been used in exterior construction in North America for over one hundred years. Generally, our redwood and cedar decking materials are more economical than either composite or exotic hardwood decking and tend to create a more rustic appearance.

EXOTIC HARDWOOD DECKING

We are proud to supply a variety of hard-to-find exotic hardwoods. Choose from Ipe, Champagne Ipe, Fijian Mahagony, Red Balau and Tigerwood. These products are highly desired due to their incredible natural beauty, durability, and almost complete lack of knots. Exotic hardwood decks tend to be more expensive than traditional redwood and cedar decking, but for a good reason. It provides one of the highest values of decking material available.

COMPOSITE DECKING

We carry mulitple lines of composite decking for all of of our customers’ varying needs. Choose from multiple lines of Green Bay Decking, Evergrain Envision, Fiberon, Trex, TimberTech and Fortress. Our composite decking materials require very little maintenance. Sweep them off, rinse them down, and that’s it for most composite products. New technology coming out with composite decking makes this an exciting product to be involved with.

Composite Decking

While we carry a wide variety of of composite decking lines, not all of them may suit your decking needs. It’s best to talk to a decking expert and learn which one is right for your specific needs. Some items to consider are your budget, exposure to sunlight, moisture, appearance, building codes and any extras. Don’t get too caught up in a desired color preference, choose a product that best fits your needs!

There are two common types of composite decking- capped and uncapped. Although uncapped composite decking works in many cases due to its ability to resist mold, decay and stains, a capped composite board adds an extra layer of compressed materials that will plug off areas on the boards to help keep moisture and dirt out. For this reason, capped composite decking is typically a superior product. To find out more about which composite decking is best for you- give us a call!
